The United Methodist Church (UMC) is embarking on a significant new stewardship campaign aimed at financially strengthening the Church at all levels. This collaborative effort, led by the General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA) and United Methodist Communications (UMCOM), seeks to reignite our Church’s rich heritage of sacrificial giving while addressing the financial challenges facing our connectional system. This campaign is a call for every United Methodist to join hands in supporting our shared mission.
The Birth of the Campaign
At the 2020/2024 General Conference, the Connectional Table asked the GCFA Board of Directors to work to achieve a 90% apportionment collection rate during the first two years of the 2025-2028 quadrennium based on actions by the General Conference. Recognizing the need for a coordinated effort, GCFA and UMCOM immediately partnered to ensure the campaign’s success. Together, these agencies are leveraging their expertise in finance, messaging, and media to drive this initiative forward. This campaign isn’t just about reaching a financial benchmark, it’s about strengthening the church by fostering a culture of generosity.
A Heritage of Stewardship
From the teachings of John Wesley to the sacrificial giving of UMC members throughout history, stewardship has been a cornerstone of our faith tradition. As part of their membership vows, United Methodists commit to supporting the Church with their prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. This campaign invites us to renew that commitment, celebrating the profound impact of faithful giving.
Share Your Stories
The campaign calls on all United Methodists to share inspiring stories of sacrificial giving—whether it’s a congregation rallying together for a special cause or an individual making a meaningful personal sacrifice. These stories will be shared across the UMC community to inspire others and demonstrate the power of generosity in action. To contribute your story, email UnitedInImpact@gcfa.org, and a member of our team will follow up with you.
A Collaborative Effort
GCFA and UMCOM are laying the groundwork for this campaign by creating branded content and distributing resources through UMC channels, with additional support from GBOD in providing content. However, the success of this initiative depends on every Bishop, agency, communicator, and leader promoting the campaign in their respective communications channels. Together, we can amplify the message and impact of stewardship and giving.
Join the Movement
It’s only the beginning and with your involvement, we can create a ripple effect of generosity throughout the Church. Whether it’s through increased weekly giving, sharing stories, or supporting apportionments, every contribution matters. Together, we can ensure a vibrant and financially stable future for the UMC.
As we move forward, additional resources and updates will be shared. Thank you for your dedication to the mission and ministry of the United Methodist Church. Let us honor our membership vows and create legacy of stewardship and generosity, building a stronger connectional system for generations to come.
