Nashville, TN – The Board of Directors of the United Methodist Church Foundation (UMCF) met Monday, November 21 and elected to move in a strategic direction that will focus on the Foundation’s ministry throughout the denomination and will restructure the staff positions. As of February 1, 2017, The Foundation will have one staff person in the role of Foundation Director. In the newly defined role, the Director will have primary responsibility for building a planned and major gifts program to support the general funds of The United Methodist Church and address the changing business climate related to the role of the Foundation.
With this change, the UMCF will provide broader services to the United Methodist connection. This strategic reorganization plan will position the Foundation for growth and maximize its relationship with investment partner Merrill Lynch to provide guidance and support to the connection. The Foundation’s major focus will continue to be the development of endowments and socially responsible investments to grow those endowments. Currently, the Foundation has assets totaling over $66 million.
The Board thanks its two current part-time employees, Byrd Bonner and Ehren Congdon for their dedication and support of the mission and ministry of the UMCF. It has been their work that has brought the Foundation through some milestone accomplishments and innovations, including the work on shareholder advocacy for socially responsible investing and the Foundation’s role in Vital Congregations initiatives.
