The new quadrennium brings with it several changes for the General Council on Finance and Administration (GCFA). The legal, financial and administrative council for The United Methodist Church elected its new Board of Directors at its organizational meeting in late August. Board officers are: Bishop G. Lindsey Davis, President; Don Brown, Vice-President; and Mary White, Recording Secretary. In addition, the new General Secretary and Treasurer, A. Moses Rathan Kumar, was elected.
The council, by discipline, is comprised of four bishops, thirty persons from five US jurisdictions as nominated by the College of Bishops, and six at-large members, including members from Africa, Europe and the Philippines. The group, along with key staff, met in Minnesota to organize and be briefed on council responsibilities. Of the 40-member board 23 are new, with 17 returning in this quadrennium.
“I am excited about our new Council,” says President Bishop Lindsey Davis. “After being with the new directors at this organizational meeting, I am very impressed with their commitment to Christ, their depth of ministry experience, and their variety of technical and financial skills. With our new General Secretary, I look forward to making a difference for Christ and our Church in these days to come.”
